
Men's Track Opens Competition at the SEC Championships

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Alabama men's track and field team began competition at the SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday at James G. Pressly Stadium at Percy Beard Track. The decathlon was the only event competed on Thursday.
Sophomore Michael Hughes turned in a good finish in the first event of the day, the 100 meter dash, crossing the line with a time of 11.25 in sixth place.
In the long jump, however, after returning to competition after a near three-hour lightning delay, Hughes unfortunately succumbed to injury and will be unable to finish competition this weekend.
Clyburn climbed up the standings with his seventh place finish in the shot put with a heave of 37-2.
In the high jump, Clyburn continued to fare well as he cleared the bar set at 6-6 to tie for second place in the event. Justin Brady finished tied for sixth with a leap of 6-2 1/4.
Brady finished 10th in the 400m with a personal best time of 52.38. Five events remain for the decathletes on Friday.
After day one, indoor heptathlon SEC runner-up Gray Horn of Florida leads indoor SEC Champion Michael Ayers of Tennessee 3,809 to 3,752 points. Brady sits in 12th place while Clyburn is in 14th.
Competition in the men's decathlon is set to resume at 12:30 p.m. EST with individual events to begin at 2:00 p.m. EST with the men's hammer throw.
