Tuscaloosa, Ala. -
University of Alabama men's basketball head coach Anthony Grant announced the signing of Ben Eblen for the 2009-10 season Wednesday afternoon. Eblen, Grant's first signed recruit since taking over the reins of the program on March 27, is a 6-1, 180-pound point guard that recently wrapped up a stellar career at Florida Air Academy in Melbourne, Fla.
"We are excited about Ben's decision to join the Crimson Tide family," said Grant. "Ben brings a combination of skill, selflessness and competitiveness that impacts winning. He also brings great leadership qualities, both on and off the floor, that will be tremendous assets to our team, University and community."
Originally from Isle of Palms, S.C., Eblen is ranked as the 28th best point guard in this year's class by scout.com and led Florida Air Academy to a 25-1 record last season while averaging 10 points, eight assists and four steals. During his junior campaign, he posted 15 points, eight assists and three steals to help the Falcons to a 21-7 record. As a sophomore in 2007 the Falcons went 25-3 en route to a Florida Class 3A state championship for head coach Aubin Goporo. During his three years at FAA, Eblen's teams recorded a combined 71-11 record.
Eblen will join the Tide's four fall signees, guard Charvez Davis, forward Chris Hines, forward Shawn Kemp, Jr. and forward Tony Mitchell on the hardwood next season.
