BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Alabama sophomore pitcher Kelsi Dunne (Port Orange, Fla.) was named the Southeastern Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week as announced by the conference office Monday. The honor is her third conference accolade of the season and sixth of her career.
Dunne earned four of the five wins on the week for the No. 5 ranked Crimson Tide and tossed her second no-hitter of the season and fourth of her career to secure the series sweep over Auburn. In the contest the righthander fanned a season high 14 batters and only walked one.
The Port Orange, Fla. native sported a perfect 0.00 ERA and struck out 32 batters in 19 innings. Opponents only managed to hit .109 during the week. Dunne opened the week with a seven strikeout, two-hit performance against No. 20 Georgia Tech in an 8-0 win. She then backed that up with another two-hitter, punching out 11 in the series opener against Auburn.
After earning the win in an inning of relief in game two against the Tigers, Dunne tossed her fourth career no-hitter and the second no-hitter of the week for Alabama in the series finale. The seven inning no-hitter is her second on her career. Stephanie VanBrakle holds the Alabama record with five no-hitters.
Alabama will wrap up regular season play with a three-game series in Knoxville, Tenn. against the Volunteers beginning on Friday, May 1 before taking part in the SEC Tournament in Knoxville as well.
