BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Men's tennis senior Andrew Felsenthal and women's tennis senior Shelley Godwin have been named to the SEC Community Service Team which was announced by the league office Wednesday. Both are receiving this recognition for the second time as Felsenthal earned the honor as a sophomore in 2006, while Godwin picked up the award just a year ago.
Felsenthal, a native of Memphis, Tenn., has spent hours in the community this year taking part in such events as the Together we CAN Drive, athletic department Halloween Extravaganza and Read Across America. In addition, he has participated in the Walk to Defeat ALS.
Godwin, who hails from Enterprise, Ala., has also been actively involved in the Tuscaloosa community where she has spent over 30 hours giving her time just this season alone. Godwin has spent the majority of her time with area school children where she would read and speak to them. She's also volunteered to do Bible Study, visited with ALS patients, participated in a wheelchair basketball tournament and taken part in the Walk to Defeat ALS.
Both the men's and women's tennis teams are back in action Thursday when they play in the first round of the SEC Tournament. The 13th-ranked men's team will take on No. 57 Vanderbilt at 11:00 a.m. (CST), while the 24th-ranked women's team will battle with No. 33 Auburn at 8:30 a.m. (CST).
