NEW ORLEANS, La. - After opening the preseason as the 30th ranked team in the country before falling to 36th the next week, the Alabama men's track and field team has begun its climb back up the rankings coming in at 34th out of 193 ranked programs in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division I Men's Outdoor Track and Field Rankings which were announced on Wednesday.
The Crimson Tide, who has been led early this season by sprinter Ray Jadusingh and distance runner Abraham Kutingala, earned 71.14 points in the week two rankings.
The Southeastern Conference currently has all 11 men's track and field programs ranked among the top 42 in the nation.
The Division I outdoor track and field rankings are compiled by Tom Lewis. The initial rankings combine performances from returning athletes who qualified for the NCAA Championships last season and recent regional qualifiers during the start of the outdoor season. Data from last year's rankings will carry through the third week of rankings.
The 2009 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held June 10-13 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
