COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Alabama track and field team wrapped up its indoor season Saturday night at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium, site of the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on the campus of Texas A&M University. Sophomore Emmanuel Bor just missed All-American honors in the 3,000m run.
Bor finished 10th in his race running a time 8:03.73, just 2.08 seconds from eighth place which would have earned him All-American. Oregon's Galen Rupp won the title crossing the finish line in a time of 7:48.94.
"I think he ran as good as he could run tonight," head coach Harvey Glance said. "It was a very tactical race and then all of a sudden it became a race of kickers. Unfortunately he just didn't have the kick tonight."
Oregon claimed the 2009 NCAA Indoor Championship with 54 points and is now just an outdoor national title away from the coveted Triple Crown where a team wins the cross country, indoor and outdoor track national titles in one season.
The Crimson Tide came into the championship meet ranked 45th, yet was able to better that in their team finish by placing 41st.
"Its always good when you finish better than what you came in ranked," Glance said. "There's over 300 division 1 programs in track and field. We try to be in the top 25 every year and this year we were just a little off, but we're young. We'll take 41 when we came here 45th."
Alabama will begin its outdoor season when they host the Alabama Relays at Sam Bailey Track Stadium on March 26-29.
