Tyson David Earns All-American Honors at NCAA Championships

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Making his second straight appearance in the 5,000 meter run at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, junior Tyson David can now add Division 1 All-American honors to his long list of accolades. This year's championships are being held at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium on the campus of Texas A&M University.
David finished fifth in the race Friday night crossing the line in 13:49.58 to garner the title of All-American. American record holder, Galen Rupp of Oregon won the title with a time of 13:41.45.
David became the first Alabama male athlete to earn indoor All-American since 2004 when Peter Etoot and Chauncey Harris earned the title. The last male All-American from Alabama came during the outdoor season of 2005 with Etoot in the 800m.
"I think he did a good job of staying in [the race]," head coach Harvey Glance said. "He led the race about four times and then ran 2:02 over the last 800 meters. He competed well, got All-American. Hopefully we'll get something out of this 3,000 meter race tomorrow."
The NCAA Championships will resume Saturday at 12:00 p.m. Emmanuel Bor will toe the line in the 3,000m at 6:55 p.m.
