TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama head women's track and field coach Sandy Fowler led the Crimson Tide through their 6th week of practice and the Rod McCravy Invitational hosted by the University of Kentucky. The squad continues to be led by its field event athletes and brought home two individual titles last weekend.
Lynda Cooper claimed her second pole vault title of the season clearing the bar set at 12-07.50.
Chealsea Taylor set another provisional mark in the high jump clearing the bar set at 5-11.50 to win the event. Taylor also placed third in the 200m dash with a time of 24.33.
As far as training this past week, it was the last week that the women would train in such high volumes this season. The coaches think the team should start to compete really well in the coming weeks.
"Training for last week went well," Fowler said. "Last week was their last high volume week of training. They knew they were going to be a little more tired than normal last weekend just because of training."
Coach Fowler will begin to back the squad off some in training and believes this should put a little more jump in the ladies legs.
"We're going to be backing them off a little bit both in the weight room and plyometrics," Fowler said. "Their legs should start to not feel so heavy and they should start to feel a little spring in their step."
Alabama will travel to Fayetteville, Ark. next weekend to compete at the Tyson Invitational hosted by the University of Arkansas.
