TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama head men's track and field coach Harvey Glance led the Crimson Tide through their 6th week of practice and the prestigious Meyo Invitational hosted by the University of Notre Dame. The squad continues to be led by its distance program, but others are beginning to step up too.
Tyson David and Emmanuel Bor finished 1-2 in the Ryan Shay 3,000 meter race turning in times of 7:59.81 and 8:00.69, respectively. Both times were provisional marks for the NCAA Championships and David now sits at No. 5 all-time at Alabama.
Freshman Aaron Stockstell etched his name into the Alabama record books when he ran the seventh fastest 800m indoor time in school history to finish seventh with a time of 1:51.03.
In the 200m dash, Ray Jadusingh turned in the 10th best time in school history crossing the line in 21.34 for a third place finish.
In training last week, the team backed off a little in order to be more fresh for the weekend's competition. The team was able to come away with multiple personal and season bests including some provisional qualifying marks.
"We knew this was an important met for us to do some good things and it came true," Glance said. "I think they were a little bit sharper this week than the last couple weeks. I was real proud of how they responded to the film watching and working on the technical things."
This week, the Tide will again work on the technical aspects of their respective events and watch film of last week's performances. They are looking to carry the momentum gained from last weekend over into Seattle.
Alabama will have only three days to practice at home on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. They will fly out on Thursday.
"We won't have time to do much but we'll work on the technical aspects of things," Glance said. "We'll stay focused on the positive of this past weekend try to respond in Seattle. It's a great facility and the competition may even be little better so hopefully we can qualify a few more guys. We're where we need to be and good things will happen this week."
Alabama will travel to Seattle, Wash. next weekend to compete at the Husky Classic hosted by the University of Washington.
