TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The women's tennis team (3-0) continues its seven match home stand this weekend when it hosts Oklahoma (2-0) on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. (CST). The match will take place at the University of Alabama Tennis Stadium located adjacent to the softball stadium.
"We are looking forward to another home weekend against the Oklahoma Sooners," said head coach Jenny Mainz. "We had a strong showing last weekend and gained more valuable match experience."
Alabama is off to a 3-0 start after winning two matches this past weekend. The Crimson Tide swept Tulane 7-0, but had a tough time with Georgia State, coming out on top with a 4-3 victory. Alabama has been solid in doubles play, dropping only one of the nine matches so far this season. Freshman Taylor Lindsey also came through with a clutch win at the No. 6 singles spot in the match against Georgia State, preserving the Tide's undefeated record. Lindsey was rewarded for her play by being named SEC Freshman of the Week on Tuesday.
Oklahoma enters Saturday's match undefeated as well. The Sooners swept both opponents on the season, 7-0. In singles play, Oklahoma has only dropped one set, while dropping a total of fifteen games in six doubles matches. The Sooners' No. 1 singles player, Ana-Maria Constantinescu, is currently ranked No. 98 nationally. The Tide owns a 2-3 record against the Sooners. The two teams last met in 2008 in Norman, Okla. where Oklahoma edged Alabama 4-3.
"We are expecting to make headway with the things we worked on in practice this week," added Mainz. "The team is improving each week and beginning to compete better with each match."
