Baseball Team Hosts Fan Day This Saturday

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The 26th annual Alabama Grand Slammers preseason barbecue and "Fan Day" will be held this Saturday, Feb. 7, in Tuscaloosa. The event will include a free clinic for kids, followed by the annual preseason barbecue and autograph session with the Tide baseball team. The day will conclude with an intrasquad game at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
"This is certainly the highlight of the preseason," Alabama head coach Jim Wells said. "The Alabama Grand Slammers do a great job with this event and our team really appreciates their hard work. We enjoy having the opportunity to meet the many loyal Crimson Tide baseball fans. We think this year will be another successful event."
The day will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a free kid's clinic at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. Due to NCAA rules and regulations, the clinic is open to boys and girls from kindergarten through eighth grade.
Following the clinic, the Grand Slammers will hold their annual barbecue at the CAVE in Coleman Coliseum beginning at 11:30 a.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for youth (12 and under). All members of the Alabama Grand Slammers will receive two (2) complimentary admissions with their paid dues this season.
The barbecue will also include a an autograph session with the Crimson Tide players, a preview of the upcoming 2009 season from Coach Wells and a review of the Tide's recent three-game exhibition series in Havana, Cuba. There will also be Alabama baseball and Grand Slammers items available for purchase, along with free posters and pocket schedules.
After the barbecue, the Crimson Tide will hold a preseason scrimmage at Sewell-Thomas, which will begin at approximately 1:45 p.m. Admission to the scrimmage is free.
In addition, the Crimson Tide will scrimmage on Friday, Feb. 6 at 3:15 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 8 at 3:15 p.m. All scrimmages are open to the public.
Season tickets are available through the Alabama Athletic Ticket Office, or by calling 1-877-TIDETIX. Fans can also purchase tickets on the internet at www.RollTide.com. The Crimson Tide opens the 2009 season with a three-game series against Southeast Missouri State, beginning Friday, Feb. 20 at 6:35 p.m. at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
