TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The women's tennis team (7-0) faces its first road test of the season when it travels to Fort Worth, Texas to take on 21st- ranked TCU (4-4). The match will begin this Saturday at Noon (CST) and will take place at TCU's Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
"The team is excited about playing TCU on the road," said head coach Jenny Mainz. "It's the next big challenge for us to prepare for the SEC season. TCU is the best team we've played this season and has a stout line-up. It will be an excellent test for our team."
Alabama closed out its seven match home stand last weekend by sweeping a doubleheader, recording 7-0 victories over Samford and Southern Miss. The Crimson Tide has taken the doubles point in all seven dual matches this season, anchored by the play of the No. 38 doubles duo in the nation, sophomore Tiffany Welcher and freshman Courtney McLane. Alabama moved up two spots in the latest rankings and is now ranked No. 63 nationally. The Tide is 1-0 against ranked opponents this season.
The only meeting between Alabama and the Horned Frogs was during the 1991 season, a 6-3 home victory for the Tide. TCU has played a ranked team in all but one of its matches so far this season, owning a 4-3 record in those matches. The Horned Frogs have already defeated one SEC opponent, knocking off then No. 24 Auburn in Fort Worth by a score of 4- 3. TCU currently has two players nationally ranked in singles, with junior Nina Munch-Soegaard ranked 6th and senior Marcall Harkins ranked 85th. Harkins and fellow seinor Anna Sydorska check in at No. 13 in the national doubles rankings, while Munch-Soegaard and sophomore Maria Babanova are No. 53.
