Joseph Sykora's first blog is now on www.pgatour.com. The link is below. As a reminder, Joseph is doing two a week while being "Down Under". We expect them to be posted on our website on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Sykora, a native of Daphne, Ala., is a rookie this year on the Nationwide Tour. Over the course of the next few weeks he is going to play in the Moonah Classic (Australia), HSBC New Zealand PGA Championship and Michael Hill New Zealand Open. Sykora has agreed to sit down with one of our media officials, Joe Chemycz, every Wednesday and Friday to blog about his experience while traveling "Down Under." Wednesday's will have a focus on what it's like to be where you are this week, how is the food and other personal questions. Friday's will focus more on his golf game, his view of the golf courses and tournament related material.
Joseph earned his Nationwide Tour card by finishing tied for 26th at the 2008 PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament. In his first start, the Panama Digicel Championship, he finished tied for 70th with rounds of 76-67-74-76. Prior to professional golf, Sykora played collegiate golf at the University of Alabama. He won twice in his career (2006 Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate / 2007 TOPY Cup in Japan). He had a 4.0 grade-point average and has both a bachelor's and master's agree in accounting. Sykora is a three-time SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year in men's golf. In 2008, he won the H. Boyd McWhorter Award as the top student-athlete in any sport in the SEC
