TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Rolltide.com and the Alabama softball team present its third athlete for nine questions. Select players and coaches will check in weekly on Rolltide.com and answer questions pertaining to things on and off the field. The third edition features freshman Jazlyn Lunceford.
Rolltide.com: What was it like to put on the Alabama uniform for the first time and play for the No. team in the nation?
Lunceford: This had been something that I had dreamed of since I was a kid, so it was a very surreal experience for me the first time. Rolltide.com: Living in the area in nearby Northport what is it like to now play on the team you grew up watching?
Lunceford: I remember being so excited just to be able to sit in the stands at the games, but my experience on the other side of the fence has been amazing so far. It is, no doubt, a dream come true.
Rolltide.com: You hit your first career home run in front of your home crowd … what was that like?
Lunceford: It felt great to hit my first career homerun at home in front of my friends and family. I was glad to be able to hit it at home and help my team win.
Rolltide.com: Being a freshman, what is it like to be able to learn from the likes of all the All-Americans on the team?
Lunceford: I feel very privileged to get the chance to play with them and it is exciting to know that I am learning from the best. Rolltide.com: What do you expect from the freshman class this season?
Lunceford: I think that our freshman class brings many different things to the table. It's been a fun experience learning and growing with them this year.
Rolltide.com: Do you have a favorite professional baseball team and why?
Lunceford: As a kid, my favorite baseball player was Chipper Jones so the Atlanta Braves have always been my favorite.
Rolltide.com: If you could play another sport in college what would it be?
Lunceford: I played basketball in middle school before only focusing on softball and I would love to have the chance to play again.
Rolltide.com: When did you start playing the game of softball?
Lunceford: I started playing baseball with the guys at the age of 5, then switched to fast pitch when I was 10.
Rolltide.com: Why did you choose to go to the University of Alabama?
Lunceford: Playing softball at the University of Alabama is something that I have dreamed of and worked towards since I was little, so when I got the opportunity there was no doubt that this was where I wanted to be the next four years.
