TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama head men's track and field coach Harvey Glance led the Crimson Tide through their 7th week of practice and the Husky Classic hosted by the University of Washington. The squad is starting to run NCAA qualifying marks as the SEC Championship weekend approaches.
"Last week, we kind of shortened up on some things," Glance said. "We let up on our training some to make our legs fresher because we knew it was a long trip out there. It obviously paid off because we had some great marks."
Tyson David turned in the nation's third fastest 5,000m time this weekend crossing the line with a NCAA automatic qualifying time of 13:36.76. He now leads the SEC and is ranked No. 2 in Alabama school history in the event.
Andrew Kirwa and Abraham Kutingala ran provisional qualifying marks of 14:00.20 and 14:04.93 in the 5k, respectively.
Emmanuel Bor ran a provisional time in the 3,000m race of 7:58.69. The time is a new personal best and the fourth fastest in the country this year.
Tyler Campbell had a big weekend and now leads the SEC in the high jump with his new personal best mark of 7-00.50.
"This week, we'll take a day or two off due to the long trip," Glance said. "We'll start some endurance workouts around Wednesday and sharpen things back up to get ready for conference."
Alabama will take a week off and train for the SEC Championships being held Feb. 27-March 1 in Lexington, Ky.
