
Capri Knox Jumps Over 40 Feet in Triple Jump

Tyson Invitational Day Two Gallery FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The women's track and field team completed competition at the Tyson Invitational at the Randal Tyson Track Center on Saturday afternoon. The Tide came away with most members of the team getting personal or season bests in their events.
Capri Knox finished in second place in the triple jump hitting a new personal best mark of 40-02.75. It marks the first time Knox has jumped over 40 feet.
Cooper nearly broke her own school record again in the pole vault Saturday as she cleared the bar set at a height of 12-09.50 while finishing 14th overall. It was just two inches off her personal best and school record.
In the 800m run, Jordan Harper and Leigh Gilmore set seasonal bests with times of 2:19.57 and 2:20.47, respectively.
Sarah Gilmore laid down a 17 second personal best on the track in the 3,000m run in route to a third place finish and a time of 10:11.34.
Haley Moody competed in the 3,000m Championship race finishing in 13th place with a time of 10:24.94. The time is a new season best for Moody shaving almost six seconds off her previous best.
Farrah Stewart finished 10th in the 5,000m run with a time of 18:41.95 as Megan Williams followed closely behind with a 20 second personal best time of 18:50.41 on the track to finish 11th.
Betty Rotich competed in the 5,000m Championship race finishing in 11th place with a time of 17:51.06.
In the 200m dash, Chealsea Taylor set a new seasonal best time of 24.12 to finish 12th, bettering her previous best this season by .21 seconds. Heather Matherson also had a big day coming just .08 seconds from tying her personal best, but destroyed her seasonal best by .80 seconds finishing with a time of 24.49.
Kimberley Laing finished fourth in the 60m hurdle consolation finals crossing the line with a time of 8.44.
In the shot put, Angelica Howard placed 10th with a heave of 45-08.00. Christina Octavien set a new season best mark of 42-10-75 while finishing in 13th place.
School record holder in the pentathlon, Chealsea Taylor cleared 5-11.50 tying her season best in the high jump while finishing in second place.
"I feel like we did a little bit better today as far as moving towards the SEC Championships," head coach Sandy Fowler said. "I'm pretty excited about Capri in the triple jump. Now we can start working more on technical things with her that she needs to improve because her steps are down."
Alabama will send a few athletes to LSU's Twilight Invitational on Friday, Feb. 20 before heading to Lexington, Ky. for the SEC Indoor Championships hosted by the University of Kentucky. The meet will be held Feb. 27-March 1.
