Hyatt, Matthes to Attend ASWA Baseball Media Day

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - University of Alabama seniors Austin Hyatt and Kent Matthes will join head coach Jim Wells at the third annual Alabama Sportswriters Association College Baseball Media Day on Thursday, Feb. 12 at Regions Park in Hoover, Ala.
The event begins at 10 a.m., and will once again be held in the Michael Jordan Room at Regions Park. The event will consist of an interview session, followed by lunch at noon.
Hyatt has compiled a 10-5 record and 4.26 ERA in his 35-game career at Alabama. He has also made 17 starts and added three saves and two complete games. Hyatt tossed a career-best 93 1/3 innings last season and was named to the 2008 SEC All-Tournament Team after his complete-game win over league champion Georgia in an elimination game.
Matthes has hit .293 with 20 home runs and 105 RBI in his 143-game career for the Tide. He had one of his best seasons in 2008, where he batted .303 with 11 home runs and 52 RBI in 61 games. He is one of the Tide's most popular players off the field with his community service time. He was named to the 2008 SEC Good Works Team for his efforts in the community.
The college baseball season begins Friday, February 20, for the majority of baseball teams in the state and this year's media day will allow the media an opportunity to promote baseball in Alabama.
Joining Alabama at this year's event are Auburn, Jacksonville State, Montevallo, Samford, West Alabama, Troy, UAB, UAH, UNA and Birmingham-Southern. The head coach and two student-athletes will be available for interviews that day.
Alabama opens the 2009 season at home on Friday, Feb. 20, against Southeast Missouri State. The game time is 6:35 p.m. (CST).
