Birmingham, Ala. -
University of Alabama sophomore JaMychal Green has been named the Southeastern Conference men's basketball Player of the Week the league office announced Monday.
The forward from Montgomery, Ala., earned the honor after scoring a career-high 27 points in 26 minutes in the Crimson Tide's 90-71 win over Mercer on December 23. He also added 13 rebounds in the win for his third double-double of the season and 10th of his career. His career-best performance was fueled by a nearly perfect first half that saw him finish 7-of-7 and singlehandedly outscore Mercer 8-0 in the first 6:50 of the game. Of his 13 rebounds, seven were offensive, leading to nine second-chance points for the Tide. His 27 points also ties for the 10th most an SEC student-athlete has scored this season.
Green and his teammates resume play on Wednesday evening when they host Tennessee State at 7:30 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum.
