KANSAS CITY, Ks. - The Alabama soccer team garnered recognition for its work in the classroom as the National Soccer Coaches Association of American named the Crimson Tide to its College Team Academic Award list. To be eligible a team must have a cumulative grade point average above 3.0 for the 2008-09 academic year.
"The first goal we set for our team every semester involves academic achievement," Alabama head coach Todd Bramble said. "I am proud of the players and happy that the effort they put forth in the classroom can be validated with this award. We will expect to see the University of Alabama's name on this list for many years to come."
Alabama had 17 players earn academic honors after the 2008 season, including 15 members of the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll and two on the SEC Freshmen Honor Roll. The 2009 honor roll will be announced after the conclusion of the semester.
The Crimson Tide finished the 2009 campaign with a 6-11-1 overall record and a 2-8-1 mark in SEC play. Sophomore goalkeeper Justine Bernier earned All-SEC honors and Brooke Rogers was named to the SEC Community Service Team.
