
Volleyball set to Take on No. 11 Kentucky

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The volleyball team (7-17, 5-9 SEC) hits the road this weekend, beginning Friday, Nov. 6 with a trip to Lexington, Ky. where the Crimson Tide will take on the No. 11 Kentucky Wildcats (22-2, 12-1 SEC) in Memorial Coliseum at 6:00 p.m. (CST).
"This is obviously going to be a challenging road weekend for us," said head coach Judy Green. "With that being said, I think we made strides last weekend and hope to build on those improvements when we hit the courts Friday."
Alabama will be looking to make it two wins in a row after claiming a 3-1 victory over South Carolina last Sunday at the CAVE, completing the season sweep of the Gamecocks. Sophomore Ashley Frazier collected a career-high 20 kills against South Carolina, with junior Alyssa Meuth (17) and senior Brooks Webster (15) also registering double-digit kills on the night. Junior Kayla Schmidt had an outstanding performance, dishing out a career-best 48 assists and posting a team-high 11 digs. Freshman Kelsey Anderson also scooped up 10 digs, while sophomore Sarah Machen totaled a match-best eight block assists.
Kentucky enters the match having won three straight after suffering just its second defeat of the season against Tennessee on Oct. 21. The Wildcats are coming off a sweep of Mississippi on Sunday, the first time they have won in Oxford since 2005. Kentucky has recorded an impressive seven sweeps in SEC play. The offense has been solid all season long for the Wildcats, as Kentucky three players with over 200 kills on the season, led by Sarah Mendoza's 384. Sarah Rumley leads the team in assists with 1,049 and is averaging an impressive 11.79 per set. Gretchen Geisler is the leader in blocks, stuffing 93 total attempts this season
Next up, Alabama continues its road trip by heading to Knoxville to take on the Tennessee Lady Volunteers Sunday. The match is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. (CST).
