Tuscaloosa, Ala. -
Former University of Alabama men's basketball standout Alonzo Gee was selected with the sixth overall pick by the Austin Toros in the NBA Development League Draft Thursday evening.
Gee, who graduated from Alabama in December of 2008, completed his on-court career for the Crimson Tide last season as the team's leading scorer with 15 points and 7.2 rebounds per game to earn second team all-SEC honors. The 6-6, 220-pound guard/forward finished his four-year career 11th all-time at Alabama in scoring with 1,630 career points.
After spending time in various NBA camps over the summer, Gee will get the opportunity to continue his professional basketball career with the Toros. The squad, which is the D-League affiliate of the San Antonio Spurs, finished second in the Southwest Division last season with a 32-18 record. The Toros have an excellent track record of player development with 11 players in the last two seasons earning call-ups to NBA rosters.
Gee's D-League season tips off in 21 days when the Toros face Rio Grande Valley on November 27.
