
Volleyball Gears up for No. 17 LSU on Sunday

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The volleyball team (8-20, 6-12 SEC) travels to Baton Rouge to face off with 17th-ranked LSU (22-5, 16-2 SEC) on Sunday in one of the Crimson Tide's final two contests of the season. Opening serve is slated for 1:30 p.m. (CST) in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
"LSU is a tough opponent anywhere, but in particular on their home court where they've had a lot of success," said head coach Judy Green. "We are definitely going to have to play consistent volleyball to have an opportunity to win."
Alabama is coming off a home weekend split, defeating Mississippi at home on Friday 3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-19) before falling to Arkansas 3-2 (25-18, 25-17, 20-25, 25-27, 15-13) on Sunday. Against the Rebels, junior Alyssa Meuth led all players with 16 kills and junior Mary Catherine Aune tallied two service aces. Three Tide players notched double-digit digs, with freshman Kelsey Anderson leading the way with 12. In the Sunday matchup, Alabama fell just short, dropping the last home game of the season. The Tide was led by senior Brooks Webster with 13 kills and 16 digs.
LSU enters Sunday on an eight-match winning streak having most recently swept Mississippi State on Friday (25-18, 25-21, 25-20). Senior Marina Skender collected her 13th double-double of the season with 14 kills and 10 digs against the Bulldogs, while senior Brittnee Cooper and sophomore Michele Williams added 13 kills apiece. On defense, Cooper had a hand in all four of the Tigers' blocks, and sophomore Lauren Waclawczyk had a match-best 19 digs.
