TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Molly Ahrens became the third member of the 2010 volleyball incoming class when she signed a national letter of intent to suit up for the Crimson Tide next season. Ahrens joins Morgan Hendrix and Brianne Vande Griend, who both signed with Alabama last week.
"Molly was certainly a pleasant surprise to our 2010 recruiting class," said head coach Judy Green. "She brings speed, height and some physicality to our middle hitter position. "Molly's `X Factor' is her competitive drive and character. She wants to win and win big here at Alabama."
Ahrens, a 6-3 middle from Pflugerville, Texas, starred at Hendrickson High School where she was a 2008 All-State Honorable Mention selection and 2009 District Co-Offensive MVP with fellow signee Hendrix. She earned 2006-08 Most Improved honors as well as Academic All-District distinction all four years. Career highs for Ahrens includes 25 kills, 10 blocks three aces and five digs.
As a freshman and sophomore, Ahrens also lettered in basketball earning Academic All-District honors. Away from athletics, she is involved in Peers Making Peace, which is a peer-mediation program aimed at teaching students peaceful conflict resolution skills. Ahrens is the daughter of George and Becky, and has one older brother, Tyler, and one older sister, Emily.
