TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - University of Alabama head softball coach Patrick Murphy announced the signing of Jackie Traina (Naples, Fla.) Tuesday afternoon. Traina will come to the Capstone from Naples High School where she plays with current and future teammate, Alabama signee Ryan Iamurri.
"Jackie is the latest in a long line of excellent players from Florida to join the Tide," Murphy said. "Jackie is considered one of the best pitchers in nation. She led her team to Gold Nationals and has already claimed a state title. She comes from the same high school as Ryan and has been extremely well coached."
Traina has earned numerous accolades for her prowess inside the circle. She has been named the Naples Daily News Player of the Year the last three seasons. In 2008 Traina was named the Gatorade Player of the Year. During that 2008 season Traina led NHS to a Florida 4A State title.
She has been named an All-American twice and All-State in three straight seasons. In 2009 Traina had a 19-2 record. She gave up eight runs, three earned in 119.3 innings for a 0.18 ERA and averaged 11.94 strikeouts per seven innings. She was also as dominate at the plate, hitting .418 with four homeruns, 41 RBI and scored 29 runs.
On top of her skills on the diamond Traina has also lettered in golf for four seasons at NHS. Traina plays for Ryan's father Robert Iamurri at NHS and plays for Team North Florida coached by Coy Adkins. Helped lead North Florida to a Champions Cup title in 2009 and a fifth place finish at Nationals.
