TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The volleyball team (8-19, 6-11 SEC) will play its final home match of the 2009 season Sunday when it hosts Arkansas (11-16, 5-11 SEC). The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. (CST) and will be broadcast live on Fox Sports South.
Prior to the start, the Crimson Tide's three seniors, Elizabeth Salstrand, Jennifer Weber and Brooks Webster, will be recognized as it is the final match of their careers in the CAVE.
Alabama and Arkansas met earlier this season in Fayetteville where the Razorbacks outlasted the Tide in a five-setter (25-21, 21-25, 25-14, 26-28, 22-24). The win was Arkansas' first against Alabama since 2006, however, the Razorbacks do control the overall series 26-7.
The Tide looks to pick up its second win on the weekend as it already earned a 3-0 sweep (26-24, 25-18, 25-19) over Mississippi on Friday night. Alabama's offense was stellar against the Rebels hitting .418 in the match. Another bright spot was the serving game where the Tide collected six aces. Once again, junior Alyssa Meuth led Alabama in kills with 16, while classmate Kayla Schmidt handed out 41 assists in the match. Freshman Kelsey Anderson led all players with 12 digs.
Arkansas began its weekend in Starkville where the Razorbacks suffered a 3-1 (25-15, 25-14, 21-25, 25-13) loss to Mississippi State. Despite the loss, freshman Jasmine Norton improved her double-digit kill streak to 12 consecutive matches tallying 15 against the Bulldogs. She also added 10 digs for the fourth double-double of her career. The key difference in the match was hitting errors as Arkansas had 38 miscues with 39 kills for an overall clip of .007.
