OXFORD, Miss. - The Alabama soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss against Mississippi in its final match of the season Sunday afternoon at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium. The Rebels scored with six minutes remaining in regulation to sink the Tide. After the day Alabama concludes its season 6-11-1 overall and 2-8-1 in Southeastern Conference play. Mississippi improves to 13-4-2 overall and 7-2-2 in SEC games.
"We played hard and defended well," Alabama head coach Todd Bramble said. "Justine (Bernier) played an outstanding game and made some big saves for us. We were in their defensive third a lot and got behind them but just couldn't get anything out of it."
Bernier came up big for Alabama all game as she made a season best 11 saves. The sophomore wrapped up the season by making 10 or more saves on three different occasions and sealed the SEC saves title with a season total of 116 stops.
The Rebels and Crimson Tide played a physical back-and-forth match, but it was the home team that came away with the majority of dangerous scoring opportunities and produced a 20-7 shot advantage and 8-2 edge in corner kicks.
Mississippi had a couple of quality scoring chances in the opening minutes as Kelsey Breathitt and Arielle Cohen both had clean shots at the goal, but Bernier came up with two of her 11 saves in an outstanding performance by the Tide keeper.
Dylan Jordan tallied the game-winner at the 83:14 mark when she made a run down the right side and took a pass from Kendyl Mygatt before turning around a defender and slotting a shot near post.
Alabama was led in shots by junior Kelly King with three. Mississippi was led by Hannah Weatherly and her five shots, putting four on frame.
