TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The volleyball team (6-13, 4-5 SEC) closes out its weekend in the CAVE on Sunday when it welcomes in the eighth-ranked Kentucky Wildcats (18-1, 8-0 SEC) at 1:30 p.m. (CST). This match marks the final contest of the first half of Southeastern Conference play.
Last time out, Alabama dropped a hard-fought 3-1 (26-24, 25-22, 22-25, 25-23) loss to Tennessee Friday in the CAVE in a match that was decided by a combined seven points. Sophomore Ashley Frazier registered a match-high 15 kills followed by senior Brooks Webster with 13 and junior Alyssa Meuth with 11. Webster also collected a season-best 19 digs to pace the Tide defense, while junior Kayla Schmidt tacked on another 16 scoops in addition to a match-high 28 assists.
The Wildcats come in as the SEC leader with a perfect 8-0 record against league competition. Kentucky has already recorded five sweeps in conference action, all coming against Western Division foes. The Wildcats have been dynamic on offense this season, leading the SEC in kills, assists, and hitting percentage. They are also in the top ten nationally in those three categories.
Sunday's match will feature a host of promotions including Scout Day and Alumni Appreciate Day where all Boy Scout, Girl Scouts and University of Alabama Alumni will receive free admission to the match. It will also be a "Sunday Fun Day" in the CAVE where inflatables will be on hand for children to play in. Post match, the team will be signing autographs.
Regular admission is $3 for adults and free for children 12 and under and for all University of Alabama students. Those who present a ticket stub for the Alabama vs. South Carolina football game will also receive free admission. Tickets can be purchased at the door beginning at Noon (CST).
