
Volleyball Crams the CAVE Friday Against LSU

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - After defeating Mississippi State on Wednesday, the volleyball team will look to pick up another Southeastern Conference win at home when it takes on LSU Friday at 7:00 p.m. (CST). The match will mark the seventh annual Cram the CAVE event where the first 500 fans will receive a commemorative T-shirt. The Crimson Tide is 6-9 on the year and 4-1 versus league opponents, while the Tigers hold a 9-4 overall record and 3-1 SEC standing.
The first time the two squads met was in 1976. Since then, there have been 47 additional meetings where LSU narrowly edges out Alabama in the overall standings 26-22. The Tigers, however, have won the last five contests.
In Alabama's match on Wednesday, the Tide had three players notch double-digit kills with sophomore Ashley Frazier and junior Alyssa Meuth both tallying 16 and junior Calli Johnson adding another 12. Freshman Kayla Fitterer and junior Kayla Schmidt both had stellar defensive matches for the Crimson and White. Fitterer had 19 digs and four blocks, both of which were career bests. Schmidt reeled in 14 digs in addition to leading the team in assists with 36.
The last time LSU was on the court, it swept Georgia in three sets. Senior Marina Skender and junior Angela Bensend combined for 23 kills to lead the Tigers. Sophomore Lauren Waclawczyk had 11 digs to lead the team defensively.
Friday's match will be televised live on Fox Sports South. In addition, fans can also follow the action via radio or live scoring by clicking here. Regular admission to the match is $3 for adults and free for children 12 and under and University of Alabama students. The door will open 90 minutes prior to the start of the match.
