TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The volleyball team put forth great effort in the classroom as well as on the court this fall as a total of seven student-athletes earned better than a 3.0 GPA.
"When we recruit student-athletes to our program we tell them up front that our priority is academics, volleyball and then their social development," said head coach Judy Green. "Our staff is proud of our team's academic success this past fall semester, but we feel we help them perform at an even higher level. Our team's academic success is a product of a "true team effort" by our athletes, our coaching staff and our outstanding athletic academic staff. "
Eight members of the volleyball team were recently recognized by the Southeastern Conference office as Academic Honor Roll selections including Mary Catherine Aune, Lindsey Buteyn, Calli Johnson, Lauren Martin, Alyssa Meuth, Amy Pauly, Liz Salstrand and Jennifer Weber. In addition, freshmen Stephanie Riley and Lauren Wintzinger both earned perfect 4.0 GPAs following their first semester.
The Crimson Tide has begun spring workouts and will play a handful of matches before the semester is finished including the second-annual SEC Coaches Beach Volleyball Championships on Saturday, April 18 in Siesta Key, Fla.
