BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Southeastern Conference unveiled its second annual Preseason All-SEC team to highlight the upcoming season of SEC softball. The University of Alabama had four selections to the preseason squad.
"I think the best think about preseason teams is they get people talking about the upcoming season," head coach Patrick Murphy said. "This just gets us more excited to start playing and competing on a daily basis. The talent in this league is as good as it has ever been."
For the second season in a row, outfielder Brittany Rogers was a unanimous selection to the preseason team. Joining Rogers from Alabama is fellow 2008 first-team All-Americans Charlotte Morgan and Kelley Montalvo. Kelsi Dunne was also tabbed with the preseason honor after earning third-team All-American honors as a freshman.
Florida led all schools with five selections, followed by Alabama with four. Rogers and Florida's Stacey Nelson were unanimous selections. The coaches preseason All-SEC team consists of a minimum of 12 players. Each SEC head softball coach voted for four infielders, four outfielders, two pitchers, one catcher and one dp/utility player. No ties were broken.
In a class-by-class breakdown, five seniors were named to the team, followed by five juniors and two sophomores. A complete list of the 2009 SEC Softball Coaches Preseason All-SEC team follows:
