TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama baseball team added two more preseason rankings to its list of baseball accolades as Rivals.com and Baseball America both rank the Tide in the 2009 preseason Top 25.
Alabama is ranked 16th by Rivals.com and 21st by Baseball America in the preseason rankings released on Tuesday.
The Crimson Tide returns five of its top six hitters and two of its three weekend starting pitchers from last year’s team that finished 35-28 and qualified for the NCAA Tournament.
“Alabama isn’t picked to win the SEC, but has the tools to reach the College World Series,” Kendall Rogers, Rivals.com college baseball editor, wrote. “With a wealth of experience, talent and leadership, the Crimson Tide is primed to have a big-time campaign.”
The Crimson Tide opens preseason practice on Sunday, Feb. 1 and the season opener is set for Friday, Feb. 20 against Southeast Missouri State. Tickets for the 2009 season are now available by calling the Athletic Ticket Office (1-877-TIDETIX) or through the school’s official website, www. RollTide.com.
