TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - As the start of the spring schedule looms on the field, members of the Alabama softball team handled their business off it during the fall semester. Alabama sported 15 athletes that finished with a 3.2 GPA or higher.
"When we recruit our student-athletes we tell them the priorities are academics, softball and social," head coach Patrick Murphy said. "The team has done a great job in keeping those in the correct order this fall. It's a credit also to last year's graduating seniors (Chrissy Owens, Dani Woods, Katie Johnson and Jordan Praytor) who were so good with their academics that it has spread to this year's team."
With 83 percent of the team finishing on the honor roll, eight members of the squad finished with a 3.5 GPA or better, earning them Alabama Dean List honors. Seniors Brittany Rogers and Ashley Holcombe both finished the semester with perfect 4.0 GPAs.
Alabama will open the season at the South Alabama Kickoff Classic in Mobile, Ala. Play will begin on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 10 a.m. against Northwestern State. The home opener for the Tide will be on Friday, Feb. 13 against Notre Dame in the BAMA Bash.
