
Women's Golf Opens Fall Preview in Sixth Place

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The No. 10 ranked Alabama women's golf team opened its 2008 season in sixth place with a score of 596 (+20) after 36 holes at the Duramed Fall Preview at the Caves Valley Golf Club. The Crimson Tide shot a first round score of 288 (+6) and then followed that up with a second round of 302 (+14).
Virginia's Jennie Arseneault shot a six-under par 138 during the first two rounds to take a lead into Monday. Auburn's Candace Schepperle trails Arseneault by one stroke after shooting a five-under par 139. Georgia holds the team lead shooting three-over par, with Virginia trailing by four strokes and Arizona State at 10-over to round out the top three heading into the second day.
Sophomore Camilla Lennarth currently paces Alabama tied in eighth place with a 145 (+1). The Stockholm, Sweden native opened the Preview with a first round score of 70 (-2). Lennarth followed that with a second round of 75 (+3).
Freshman Brooke Pancake opened her collegiate career tied for 13th overall with a 36-hole score 146 (+2). The newcomer fired a first round of 74 (+2) and then backed that up with a 72. Pancake recorded seven birdies on the day.
Honorable mention All-American Kathleen Ekey posted a 150 (+6) to sit tied in 26th. Ekey opened play with a 73 (+1) and then closed out Sunday with a 77 (+5). The Wadsworth, Ohio native tallied five birdies over the course of the 36 holes.
Junior Helena Blomberg and sophomore Courtney Harter rounded out Alabama with scores of 155 (+11) and 158 (+14), respectively. Blomberg shot rounds of 77 and 78 to sit tied for 45th while Harter carded scores of 78 and 80 to rest tied for 55th overall.
Alabama will conclude the prestigious event tomorrow with the final 18 holes. The Crimson Tide is slated to tee off at 8:00 a.m. EST with Southern Cal and Auburn in a shot gun start.
