TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Rolltide.com and the Alabama women's soccer team present its new athlete for 11 questions. Select players and coaches will check in weekly on Rolltide.com and answer questions pertaining to things on and off the field. The fourth edition features senior midfielder Callie Pike.
Rolltide.com: Staying in your hometown to play collegiate soccer ... what is that like?
Pike: It is a lot of fun. Playing in front of a home crowd takes on a whole new meaning and every time I put on that jersey with the A on it, I hope that I represent Tuscaloosa well.
Rolltide.com: Being a senior what is something you haven't accomplished yet that you want to experience?
Pike: I want to be playing at Orange Beach in November at the SEC tournament. We have played some spring games down there but we have never gotten to experience the SEC tournament and that is something I want to experience.
Rolltide.com: Being from the area what is something you know or like to do in Tuscaloosa that others may not know about?
Pike: I love spending the summer afternoons out on Lake Tuscaloosa. Whether it be inter-tubing or just hanging out with friends, the lake is by far my favorite place to be (beside the soccer stadium) here in Tuscaloosa.
Rolltide.com: How has the new coaching staff been and how is the transition?
Pike: It has been really smooth. The coaches came in last spring and I felt like a freshman all over again. Everybody has to prove themselves to these new coaches so it was a little nerve racking at first but these coaches really care about us and want the best for us.
Rolltide.com: Do you have a favorite professional soccer team and why?
Pike: I don't really have a favorite team. There are always games on in the locker room and I never really know who is playing but the matches are always entertaining.
Rolltide.com: If you could play another sport in college what would it be?
Pike: I would have for sure played golf.
Rolltide.com: What is on your IPOD right now?
Pike: I have a lot of country music on my IPOD. Mainly Rascal Flatts but I do have some songs that are on our warm up CD before the game. Listening to those songs on the road help me to get pumped for the games because they are what we listen to before we play big Friday night games here.
Rolltide.com: What is your favorite pregame meal?
Pike: I would have to say Jason's Deli Club Royale. I am weird about what I eat before games. We have now moved to Full Moon Barbeque which is starting to win me over.
Rolltide.com: When and why did you start playing the game of soccer?
Pike: I started playing soccer at the age of 4. I have an older brother who played and so my parents decided to sign me up and I have just been playing every since.
Rolltide.com: Why did you choose to go to the University of Alabama?
Pike: This school has such a rich sports tradition that it was hard to pass up. The facilities are the nicest facilities that I have ever been to, the support from the University is incredible, and Saturday football games in the fall.
Rolltide.com: What do you plan to do after you graduate?
Pike: I hope to go to grad school and then move to Birmingham and work at Lakeshore Foundation up there.
