
Women's Golf Moves into Third Place at Cougar Classic

CHARLESTON, S.C.- The No. 10 ranked Alabama women's golf team posted a 288 (E) in the second round of the Cougar Classic Monday, shaving five strokes off its day one total to move up the leader board into third place. The Crimson Tide fired the second lowest score of the day on the Yeamans Hall golf course and trails tournament leader Georgia by 14 strokes entering the final round.
After 36 holes Alabama posts a score of 581 (+5), just one stroke behind the current second place Virginia Cavaliers. The Bulldogs pace the field with a score of 567 (-9) after two rounds.
Sophomore Camilla Lennarth shot up the individual standings into the top 10 firing a second round 69 (-3) leaving her in a tie for sixth place heading into the final round. After starting the day with a double bogey, Lennarth bounced back in a big way with seven birdies over the next 17 holes.
Senior Kathleen Ekey continued her sound play in round two with another sub-par effort 71 (-1) that included a birdie on 18 to enter the clubhouse tied with Lennarth in sixth. Freshman Brooke Pancake shot a 74 (+2) for the second straight day to put her in a tie for 29th. Pancake made a strong turn with consecutive birdies on holes 9 and 10, her only two birdies of the round.
Junior Helena Blomberg matched Pancake's 74 on day two and currently sits in a tie for 39th. Blomberg holed three birdies on the day. Sophomore Courtney Harter is even with Blomberg in 42th after a second round 75 (+3) that included a birdie on 18 to finish her round.
Alabama will look to make a run at the Cougar Classic title tomorrow and improve on last season's third place finish with the final 18 holes tomorrow. Georgia, Virginia, Alabama and South Carolina will start things off on the final day with a tee-time of 8:45 a.m.
