TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama head women's soccer coach Todd Bramble led the Crimson Tide through its second week of practice including the conclusion of two-a-days. Alabama practiced through the week and capped off training with two scrimmages as it continues preparation for its season opener against Memphis.
"We are starting to work with the organization and timing of the runs with the players ahead of the ball," Bramble said. "I am hopeful we got out of practice what the objectives were."
The players got a well deserved day off last Wednesday when classes began. Tuesday marked the last day of nearly two weeks of two-a-days. Since most of the teams across the country started their regular seasons, Bramble had his squad play two scrimmages over the weekend.
Alabama suited up for a full 90 minute intrasquad scrimmage on Friday and then had a recovery day on Saturday. The Crimson Tide came back to the pitch on Sunday and had another scrimmage. The Sunday contest was a little different as Bramble mixed it up with a 9-on-13 game.
Bramble now enters his first full game week at the helm of the Crimson Tide. Alabama enters game week with two full weeks of training under the manager.
"We need to work on breakaways and break pressure at the midfield," Bramble said. "We still have a few things to address going into Friday night but I think we are on track."
Alabama will open the 2008 season against reigning Conference USA champ Memphis. The Tide will have to hit the road to play the Tigers on Aug. 29 at 5:00 p.m. at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex in Memphis.
