TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Under the direction of first-year head coach Todd Bramble, the University of Alabama women's soccer team began camp. After of a day of fitness tests and short sided games in the Hank Crisp Indoor Facility due to inclement weather, the Crimson Tide was finally able to take to the pitch Wednesday morning for more fitness and a scrimmage.
"We feel like we sort of got delayed a day due to the weather but having said that it is nice to have the indoor facility at our disposal," Bramble said. "We got a lot out of yesterday but today we were able to get out on the beautiful grass field here and start to implement some of our concepts."
Camp officially began for Alabama Tuesday morning. The morning session was used strictly for fitness while the later session saw the squad break up into four teams of six and play short sided games. Even coach Bramble got into the action, leading his unit to an undefeated record on the turf surface.
"Mainly we just want to come together as a team," sophomore forward Victoria Frederick said. "We have been concentrating on connecting well and bringing along the freshmen and getting back into the groove of things."
Wednesday morning Bramble led the Crimson Tide into the Alabama Soccer Complex for its first session on its home pitch. After more fitness tests, the team was broken up into two full squads of 11 and scrimmaged for the remainder of the morning.
The Crimson Tide will once again train in the evening with a 6:00 p.m. practice time slated for tonight. The two-a-days will continue for Alabama until Tuesday, Aug. 19. The Crimson Tide will host Jackson State in exhibition play on Saturday, Aug. 16 at 5:00 p.m. at the Alabama Soccer Complex.
