BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Alabama volleyball team, continuing its tradition of excellence in the classroom as well as on the court, had three freshmen named to the Southeastern Conference Freshman Academic Honor Roll the league office announced today.
Mary Catherine Aune, Lauren Martin, and Alyssa Meuth all earned a spot on the Honor Roll. Student-athletes must be on scholarship or have lettered and maintain a 3.0 grade point average or better during their first year of competition.
"Our volleyball philosophy is to recruit complete student-athletes," head coach Judy Green said. "We talk a lot during the recruiting process about the expectations we have of our players. We are very proud as a coaching staff of the accomplishments of our three freshmen. We hope they continue to have pride in Alabama Volleyball and their academics as they pursue their degrees."
Overall, the University of Alabama ranked third in the SEC with 56 student-athletes earning the honor. Green's teams have earned a 3.0 or better GPA in 22 of the past 23 semesters. Her 2007 squad earned an impressive 3.189 GPA in the classroom last year.
