TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Freshman hurdler Talaya Owens will compete in the United States Olympic Trials at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, toeing the line Friday at 6:30 p.m. PDT.
Owens will be competing in the 400m hurdles in her first Olympic Trials.
"This meet will provide valuable experience for Talaya," Alabama hurdle coach Scott Roberts said. "She has only been in the event for three short months and her future is incredibly bright."
Owens was one of the Crimson Tide's highlights at the SEC Championships as the redshirt-freshman, placing third overall in the 400m hurdles with a personal-best of 57.76 seconds. That time ranks eighth in school history.
In just her first season in the 400 hurdles, Talaya's time of 57.76 was the 13th best mark heading into the NCAA Championships. She has lowered her career-best time by more than two seconds over the course of her rookie season.
