
Bud Cauley Tied For 2nd at World Cup

TUSCALOOSA - Bud Cauley, who will be a freshman on the University of Alabama men's golf team this fall, is in a tie for second place after Wednesday's opening round at the Toyota Junior Golf World Cup. The Jacksonville, Fla., native is part of the USA's four-man team competing in Toyota City, Japan. Teams from 16 countries are represented in the international field.
Cauley opened with 68, which is 3-under par on the par 71 course at Chukyo Golf Club. His score helped the USA team open T-4th at 2-under par. Sweden, the defending champion, leads at 7-under par, 206. Tied at 2nd at 1-under are Argentina and Denmark (207), followed by the USA and New Zealand (211), England (212), in a three-way T-7th Australia, India and Norway (213), T-10th Japan, Korea and South Africa (214), at 13th Columbia (216), T-14th Guatemala and Mexico (223), and at 16th Kenya (234).
Sweden's Pontus Widegren leads the field at 4-under, 67. Cauley shot 33 on the front nine and 35 on the back nine to shoot 68 for the round. He's one of seven golfers who opened with a 68. Team USA's other scores included Wesley Graham who shot 70 and it T-14th, Cody Gribble and both Cody Gribble and Gregor Main shot 73 and are among a T-36th at 1-over par.
"We had a couple of guys go out of bounds on the front nine, so that obviously hurt us," US Coach Brian White said in a release sent out by the Golf Coaches Association of America. "We just need to really start grinding, and we'll be alright."
