TUSCALOOSA - Coleman Coliseum came alive Friday night with laughter and fun and some great family bonding. Mark Gottfried held his annual Parent-Child Camp with kids and their dads perfecting their basketball skills and having great one-on-one family time. Typically held on the Friday of Father's Day Weekend, the parents and their kids arrive on Friday evening and are instructed on the court by Bama's basketball staff and several of the Crimson Tide players. This weekend's campers included all fathers and sons, though in years past it has included daughters and moms as well. The dads will spend Friday night in a dorm room on campus with their sons. They'll wake up early Saturday morning, have breakfast at a campus dining hall with the other dads and their sons and then report back to Coleman Coliseum for more basketball fun before it's time to return home on Saturday afternoon. Gottfried, the father of five himself who has a couple of his kids attending the camp, designed the camp as a chance for parents to not only get some special time with their kids but for parents to learn some skills and drills that they can use to help their kids perfect and work on their game all year long.
Parent/Child camp is the first of several basketball camps that will be held at Coleman Coliseum in the next two weeks. Team camp starts Saturday night and there will be shooting camps, individual camps and more team camps in the coming weeks.
