TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Already a pioneer of the first order, Alabama senior rower Bryn Crawford came away with yet another first recently when she was named to the Collegiate Coaches Rowing Association's All-South Region Second Team.
Crawford earned the honor after helping the Alabama Rowing team, in its second season as an NCAA sport, to new heights this season, including a pair of silver medal finishes at two of the year's biggest regattas.
"Bryn brought an incredible work ethic to everything she did and led by example every day," Alabama head coach Larry Davis said. "She has been instrumental in helping us make the transition from club to NCAA program. She has consistently turned in our top times and the boats she has been a part of have improved at every turn."
The honor is a first for Alabama and the Tide was youngest team to make the list this season and the only program to make the region honors list for the first time.
A native of Auburn, Ala., Crawford was part of the club program that moved Alabama into the varsity realm. A star triathlete during her prep career, she was part of the Crimson Tide's First Varsity 8+ boat that captured a silver medal at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta last fall, an astounding feat for a second year program.
This spring she led the Tide's Varsity 8+ to another silver medal, this time at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships, where she also led the Tide to a second place overall finish, another outstanding accomplishment for the young program. As a junior, she was part of Alabama's first gold medal boat, winning the Championship 8+ at the Head of the South.
