
Bartholomew Wins 400-Meter Qualifying Heat

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Alabama women's track team started its stay at the NCAA National Championships with Trish Bartholomew winning her qualifying heat of the 400 meters. The Crimson Tide had two athletes compete in preliminary races Wednesday at Drake Stadium.
Bartholomew cruised in the opening heat of her 400-meter preliminary race to easily qualify for the semifinals with a time of 52.33. The time was the second fastest of all competitors on Wednesday. Next, the senior will look to advance to the finals with a strong performance in the semifinals schedule to take place on Friday, June 13.
Freshman Talaya Owens narrowly missed qualifying in her first appearance at the NCAA Championships. Owens was in great position in second place in her heat after nine hurdles but clipped the last barrier to finish with a time of 59.33.
The Crimson Tide will send junior Betty Rotich to the track on Thursday for the 10,000 meters. Rotich will begin her race at 8:10 p.m. on the Jim Duncan Track.
