AUBURN, Ala.-The Alabama men's track and field team concluded the SEC Outdoor Championships Sunday, finishing ninth as a team, matching last year's finish. Tyson David concluded his brilliant meet to lead the Crimson Tide over the course of the weekend at the Hutsell-Rosen Track at Auburn University.
"There is no room for error at this meet," head coach Harvey Glance said, "We had a lot of ups and downs but Tyson did a real good job competing this weekend by scoring 18 points for us and winning the 10,000 meters."
The 4x100-meter relay team placed seventh with a season best 39.97, bettering the Hutsell-Rosen track record by one tenth of a second.
Sophomore Emmanuel Bor competed in the 1,500 meter finals, finishing in eighth place with a time of 3:49.38
Sophomore Tim Grier finished fifth with a new personal best of 50.66 in the 400-meter hurdles, good enough for sixth all-time in the Alabama record books.
Senior Michael Cooley finished eighth in the 200-meter dash, running a 20.88.
Junior Tyson David, who won the 10,000-meter SEC title just two days ago, missed winning the 5,000 by .63 of a second, placing second in a hard-fought battle during the last lap with a time of 13:44.81. The time places him third all-time at Alabama in the event.
Arkansas marked the finale of the nation's most decorated college coach in all of sports, Razorbach head coach John McDonnell, with another SEC Outdoor title in his last season as head coach of the Razorbacks. McDonnell has 41 NCAA championships in 26 seasons and 44 of the 47 SEC Championships since joining the conference in 1991-92.
Arkansas won the meet with 131.5 points followed by LSU with 122, Tennessee with 97.5, Florida with 80, Auburn with 78.2, Kentucky with 72, South Carolina with 57, Mississippi State with 56.2, Alabama with 46.2, Georgia with 43.4, and Mississippi with 35.
