
Men's Track Sends Athletes Cross Country and Instate

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama men's track and field team will send athletes across the country and keep some instate this weekend for various competitions. Athletes from the Crimson Tide will participate in the Stanford Invitational and the Tiger Classic. Both meets will begin on Friday, April 4.
Teams all across the country will be present at the prestigious Stanford meet, including athletes from Tennessee, Cal Poly, Washington State, Oklahoma, Cal, USC and UCLA to name a few. The men's 5000 meters will start things off at 9:06 a.m.
The Tiger Classic will be held at the Hutsell-Rosen Track on the Auburn campus and will feature two full day events.
The Crimson Tide men's track and field team opened its 2008 outdoor campaign in impressive fashion. On its home oval at the Sam Bailey Track and Field Complex, the men's squad earned five regional qualifying marks.
Sophomore Tim Grier was the highlight of the meet as he earned two marks, one in the long jump with a leap of 25-04.00 and another in his first 400m hurdle race of the season with a 51.80.
Senior Michael Cooley earned a regional time in the 200m with a finish of 20.97. Junior Augustus Maiyo blew away the field in the 3000m steeplechase with a regional mark of 8:51.34, to out distance 2007 NCAA champion Barnabas Kirui by over 20 seconds.
Sophomore Emmanuel Bor opened his outdoor campaign with a regional time of 3:44.82 in the 1500. The 4x100m relay team hit a regional time of 40.21.
Alabama will continue its outdoor season in the Valley of the Sun at the 29th Sun Angel Classic on the campus of Arizona State University. The meet will begin on Friday, April 11.
