TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama Rowing team had an outstanding showing at this weekend's Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships held in Oak Ridge, Tenn., earning a second-place team finish in the women's meet.
"We're very proud of how we raced and how we finished as a team," Alabama head coach Larry Davis said. "I had no idea that we did that well in the team standings until well after the meet was finished. To finish second in only our second year as a varsity program is pretty amazing."
Purdue took first place on the women's side of the championship followed by Alabama with Jacksonville placing third.
The Crimson Tide had four top-five finishes in the Grand Finals, including a silver-medal showing in the First Varsity 8+ race, and a first-place finish in the Petite Finals of the Second Varsity 8+.
Alabama closes out the 2008 season at the 70th Dad Vail Regatta, Friday-Saturday, May 9-10, on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, Pa. The Dad Vail Regatta is the largest collegiate regatta in the United States, with over 100 colleges and universities from the U.S. and Canada competing in the event.
