
Three Regional Marks Pace Tide at Vanderbilt Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Alabama women's track and field team earned three regional marks this weekend at the Vanderbilt Invitational. Trish Bartholomew, Angelica Howard, and Meghan Austin all hit qualifiers at the Vanderbilt Track and Field Stadium.
Bartholomew, taking a week off from the 400, earned a regional time in the 200 by winning the event in a time of 23.36.
In the throwing events, Howard uncorked the shot put 47-06.25 to win the event by nearly a foot. Austin claimed top honors in the javelin with a throw of 143-08, a victory by over 14 feet.
Also in the throwing events was a fifth place finish by Elizabeth Wilson in the hammer with a heave of 162-00. Howard followed in seventh with a throw of 158-02. Christina Octavien placed fourth in the discus with a toss of 146-04. Jessica Hand threw the disc 130-02.
In the distance events Betty Rotich placed seventh in the 1500 with a time of 4:32.66. Julia Hicks made her spring debut with a fourth place finish in the 3000 with a time of 10:13.80. Haley Moody closely followed with a 10:17.96 to finish fifth.
Nicole Okolo nearly hit a regional qualifier in the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.09. Okolo finished second in the event.
Alabama will continue its outdoor slate at the prestigious Drake Relays. The meet that will be held in Des Moines, Iowa will begin on April 25.
