
Men's Track Paced by Distance Squad

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Alabama men's track and field team again travelled across the country, this time to compete in the Sun Angel Classic. The Tide left the West Coast with another great showing as the distance squad left their mark on the Joe Sellah Track this weekend.
The Alabama trio of Emmanuel Bor, Tyson David and Augustus Maiyo all eclipsed NCAA regional marks. Bor, who competed in the invitational portion, crossed the line seventh, second among collegiate runners with a time of 3:42.02. David ran a 3:44.26 while Maiyo finished with a 3:45.27.
Competing in his first 110 hurdle race as a member of the Crimson Tide, Tim Grier placed fourth with a 14.47. Grier also made an impression in the invitational portion of the long jump, as the sophomore leaped a regional mark of 24-09.00.
In the javelin, the Tide saw freshman Travis Denkers toss a qualifying mark with a throw of 210-06, to place third overall. In the steeplechase, Andrew Kirwa ran a 9:18.30, to place sixth overall.
The men's also sent some participants to the Ole Miss Invitational where the Tide duo of Joe Pupura and Paul Guevara finished 1-2 in the 5000 with times of 14:53.84 and 14:55.67, respectively. In the 800, Brandon Stephens finished ninth in the 800 with a time of 1:55.39. In addition to the javelin showing in Tempe, Chris Lenart won the event in Oxford with a throw of 180-05.
Alabama will train through the week next week before head to the prestigious Drake Relays. The relays are slated to begin on April 24 in Des Moines, Iowa.
