
Women's Track Heads to 42nd Annual Sea Ray Relays

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama women's track and field team will compete at the 42nd annual Sea Ray Relays. The meet, formerly known as the Dogwood Relays, runs Wednesday through Saturday with the Tide starting events on Friday. The meet is held in Knoxville, Tenn. at Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium.
This year's Sea Ray Relays features 55 collegiate teams, including No.6 Georgia and No. 19 Louisville, along with SEC foe Kentucky and in-state schools Chattanooga, East Tennessee State, Memphis and MTSU.
Alabama concluded its stay at the prestigious Stanford Invitational with more NCAA qualifying marks and personal bests. Senior Trish Bartholomew brought home a victory in the 400m with another NCAA mark. Bartholomew continued her brilliance in the 400 meters with a winning time of 53.03, blowing away the field by over a second and a half.
Talaya Owens made a great showing in the hurdles by winning the 400 hurdles with a time of 61.00 and finishing third in the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.24.
In the distance events, Betty Rotich ran a NCAA qualifying time in the 10,000m with a finish of 34:19.47.
The throwing events featured big personal bests for the young Crimson Tide. In the hammer throw Angelica Howard and Jessica Hand tossed career bests. Hand threw the hammer 139-04 while Howard followed with a 122-05. The discus featured three personal bests for the Tide. Christina Octavien threw the disc 152-00 while Howard and Hand hit personal bests again with throws of 122-00 and 109-06, respectively.
The pole vault duo of Lynda Cooper and Katherine Strickland were in action as well. Cooper vaulted 12-07.50 while Strickland cleared a height of 11-07.75.
Alabama will train through the week next week before head to the prestigious Drake Relays. The relays are slated to begin on April 24 in Des Moines, Iowa.
