
Softball Ranked In Top 3 of Both College Softball Polls

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ?? One week after attaining the nation’s top ranking in two national college softball rankings, The University of Alabama softball team holds top-five rankings in both national softball polls after the Crimson Tide took two of three games over last weekend at the University of Washington Classic.
Alabama earned the No. 2 ranking in the USA Today/NFCA top 25 poll released on Tuesday. Alabama was also ranked third ESPN.com/USA Softball poll also released Tuesday. Alabama received the most first-place votes in the USAToday/NFCA poll with 10, ahead of top-ranked Arizona State’s 9 first-place votes, but the Sun Devils lead the Tide in total voting points by a margin of 645 to 633. ASU had 10 first-place votes in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll while both UCLA and Alabama had 4 each.
The Tide remains the highest ranked Southeastern Conference team in both national polls. Tennessee and Florida also are ranked in the top 10, the Volunteers ranking fourth by USA Today/NFCA and sixth by ESPN.com/USA Softball while the Gators rank fifth in both rankings this week.
Three of Alabama’s SEC opponents ?? LSU (12/12), Georgia (17/16) and Mississippi State (19/18) ?? also are ranked in both surveys this week.
Alabama opens SEC play on Saturday, March 8 at 1 p.m. when the Tide hosts Tennessee in the first game of a three-game series at the UA Softball Complex. Alabama also clashes with Tennessee in a doubleheader starting Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
